About:
Elka Graciano is a Brazilian artist and educator, teaching art within inner-city public schools and colleges for well over a decade. Upon graduating from UFMG (one of the top art schools in Brazil), Ms. Graciano received the prestigious Apartes Scholarship from the Brazilian government, allowing her to pursue an MFA at Hunter College in New York City. During her graduate Fine Arts study and her later study of Art Pedagogy at Pratt Institute, Ms. Graciano exhibited globally, receiving various awards and residencies, including those from the Bronx Museum of Art (AIM) and the Henry Street Settlement Artist-In-Residence Program. In 2015 Ms. Graciano was nominated Teacher of the Year for her extensive work at Richmond Community High School, in Richmond, VA. She currently teaches Art I, II, III, IV and AP Art, with a focus on two-dimensional techniques (drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and mixed media) at a high school level.
